2007 SHARE Survey: Data Integration and Service-Oriented Architecture, Big Iron Style By various industry estimates, at least 70 percent of the world’s mission-critical business information is stored on mainframes. Unlocking this data in an efficient and cost-effective manner is a challenge faced by many organizations, especially at a time when many are seeking to leverage their data assets to better understand customers and market opportunities. A survey among members of SHARE, conducted by Unisphere Research during July and August of 2007, revealed that many mainframe systems are at the center of efforts to achieve enterprise data integration, as well as to extend applications into service-oriented architectures. By some estimates, there are now more than 150 laws and regulations from federal, state, international, and industry oversight bodies that impose some set of requirements on IT infrastructures. In an effort to assess the impact of compliance mandates on data center operations SHARE, in cooperation with its 2005 Alliance Vendors, recently surveyed 111 IT executives and managers with compliance oversight responsibility in their organizations. SHARE’s 2005 Alliance Vendors include: American Power Conversion, Computer Associates, EMC Corporation, Innovation Data Processing, Isogon: An IBM Company, ISPW BenchMark Technologies Ltd., Luminex Software, Inc., Mainstar Software Corporation, and Siemon.
