In most cases, a performance goal of “as fast as possible” is probably not
financially prudent. Most z/OS environments have some constraints, which leads
to some workloads suffering at least some of the time. It can be useful to track
which workloads are suffering due to a constraint and to what degree. Doing so
can help you validate that changes have made an improvement or help you
understand if suffering is increasing, potentially foreshadowing future
problems. In this session, Scott Chapman will review different z/OS measurements
that can be used to understand what workloads are suffering, discuss the value
of tracking those metrics over time, and contemplate the business value of
suffering.
