Core performance ratios provide benchmark data for the two different
architectures (x86 vs IBM IFL) in a controlled and functionally equivalent
environment. Benchmarks (performance ratios) describe what a system is capable
of but not how it will be implemented or deployed. In this session, you will
learn about core consolidation ratios with a comparison of equivalent
environments that include production, dev/test, HA and DR. System level
differences between the two platforms impact the environments in which they are
deployed and how those differences impact cost to the organization. Using
technical descriptions of x86 and IFLs, participants will learn how benchmarks
can be extrapolated into real deployment. Often, we are asked for benchmarks and
then have to explain why benchmarks are not indicative of overall system
performance or deployment.
