This session provides a "deep dive" technical introduction to the enhanced I/O infrastructure, new I/O features, and Parallel Sysplex coupling enhancements offered by the IBM zEnterprise BC12 (zBC12) and EC12 (zEC12) updates for GA2, announced on July 23, 2013. Learn about zBC12 I/O subsystem improvements in the PCI Express (PCIe) I/O infrastructure compared to the z114. Get an introduction to the new I/O and Parallel Sysplex features and functions exclusive to the zBC12 and zEC12 at GA2 including: zEnterprise Data Compression, designed to support a new data compression function to provide high-performance, low-latency compression with relatively low CPU overhead; 10 GbE RoCE Express, designed to help optimize network communication by enabling use of Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) protocols over Converged Ethernet; the new OSA-Express5S generation of networking features; Coupling Facility Control Code (CFCC) Level 19; and FICON enhancements. Get a planning "heads up" from explanations of the latest Statements of Future Direction for System z I/O. For a complete introduction to overall zBC12 system structure plan to attend session 13707: Introducing the new IBM zEnterprise BC12 (zBC12) and EC12 Updated Hardware: Processor, Memory, System Structure, and Installation Planning, which is a recommended prerequisite for this session. This session is new for SHARE in Boston.-Harv Emery-IBM Corporation
