As the scope of z/OS RMF and SMF data continually increases it is challenging to
keep up with everything, even for the most experienced Engineer. Whether it is
due to time limitations or knowledge, most of us do not have time to know all
the metrics let alone review and assess them regularly. As a result, we tend to
ignore the “small” things and focus on the crisis of the moment. This is akin to
the “Don’t sweat the small stuff” approach; however, that kind of thinking can
get your z/OS applications in a lot of trouble. In z/OS you need to pay
attention to the small things before they become big things. This session will
explain what “small” metrics should not be ignored and show you how to analyze
the metrics that z/OS provides at an application level so that the oft ignored
smoldering ashes don’t become a raging inferno. -- Presented by Jim Horne; Jerry Street (Sr Performance Consultant)
