At WSC, in several of our z/OS and sysplex health checks, CF performance
studies, we came across with critical items that are missed while making
architectural decisions, managing, monitoring CF workload and performance. We
need to remember some basics as well as the dynamics, best practices for managing
these HW and workloads health. CF LPARs and workload does not have same level of
issues seen in other areas, but if they have, it will have huge impact to nearly
everything in sysplex, It is the easist area to forget related to workload
performance values and sysprog activities. Just as one basic question : Do you
know your sync and async service time range ?' may not be answered faster than
'do you know your disk responsetimes ?. What are the different CF connectivity
options ? How many links do you need? How sync /async conversion may have impact
to your several architectural decisions.. Which data you need to analyze
,monitor ? How improvement of CF environment will improve your total mainframe
environment ? In this session, we will discuss and try to share everything you
need to know for managing CFs and CF workloads as system programmer as well as
analyzing /monitoring them as system programmer/performance expert. This
includes common mistakes we have seen in market during our WSC CF and Sysplex
Health Checks and performance analysis including our client engagement related
to special guidance for architectural decisions.
