The accelerating proliferation of low-cost computer chips (gaming computers, mobiles, modern cars, smart-devices ...) and open source software may provoke the thought that mainframe workloads can be “rehosted” on smaller commodity servers to save money.
In this session we examine the issues involved with illustrative real-life cases. Yes, rehosting can be done, but is money really saved? What risks are involved? Will the ensuing system be better and more flexible? The speaker will outline the planning considerations necessary for success, and conclude with some proven ways to ensure the mainframe yields the lowest cost per unit of work.-David Rhoderick-IBM Corporation
