The 2010 hardware announcement of zEnterprise 196 was accompanied by a new software announcement for Advanced Workload License Charges (AWLC). In 2011 the z114 was also announced with a new metric: AEWLC. The zEC12 announced in 2012 included Technology Update Pricing for AWLC. This session will cover all three and how they apply to the z196, z114, zEC12 and to mixed environments of zEnterprise and older System z hardware. The transition plans will also be covered.
When you require additional capacity you may turn to a zEnterprise rather than continuing to invest in older technology. At that time you’ll want to understand all the benefits and features of the zEnterprise machines including software pricing changes as part of your Total Cost of Acquisition and Total Cost of Ownership analysis.
If you have multiple machines it is unlikely you’ll change them simultaneously and hence you’ll need to understand the transition plan that IBM offers for a PricingPlex with mixed hardware technologies. Alan Sherkow ; I/S Management Strategies, Ltd.
