Generation z grew up with pervasive user friendly computing. Most have never seen a green screen. Where are we on the path to self configuring, self-optimizing, self-healing, self-protecting? The mobile devices we use everyday receive automatic service updates, let their users browse thousands of applications and install them and remove them with the tap of a finger. We routinely use natural language ask questions and perform tasks. Granted, mainframes are very different, but do they have to be? As a systems programmer, what are the tasks that you wish the mainframe could do for itself? Are there apps or user interfaces from your experience with tablets and phones that make sense to apply to systems programmer tasks, security administration, network administration, middleware and application development. What are your thoughts on using github, and social media to share code, and best practices?-Geoff Smith-IBM Corporation
