VSAM provides a variety of buffering techniques when using data in VSAM data sets. There is NSR, LSR, and GSR buffering, and a special type of buffering is used when data sets are opened in Record Level Sharing (RLS) mode. DFSMS also provides System Managed Buffering (SMB) to reduce the complexity, but there are some considerations you should know about before using it. Determining which type of buffering to use can be confusing and picking something less than optimal could potentially impact your batch job performance. Attend this session to learn more about VSAM buffering and why it could be important to your applications.-Barbara W. McDonald-IBM Corporation; Terri Menendez-IBM Corporation
