In a Db2 system, to deploy a new feature (delivered in a new function level), the DBA must rebind the packages with the new APPLCOMPAT value to allow exploitation of the feature. When an access path regression is observed, the DBA must also rebind the package to switch back to a previous copy. The rebind command is usually serialized against the application execution processes. In a busy Db2 environment where applications are continuously executed, the DBA must wait for a window in which the applications are not running (which isn't reasonable or realistic), must take an application outage (which is disruptive), or must use a cumbersome workaround (which adds an unacceptable amount of overhead).
This session presents the Rebind phase-in feature in Db2 for z/OS which enables successful rebind of the application without waiting for a window of opportunity, without incurring an outage, and without performing a complex workaround.-Tammie Dang-IBM Corp
