zOSA-Express ports are used for both SNA and IP LAN connectivity to System z operating systems. In this session we will focus on how z/OS Communications Server uses OSA for IPv4 LAN connectivity based on Queued Direct IO (QDIO). The session will discuss both configuration and operational aspects, such as maintenance of the OSA address table (OAT), ARP processing, use of Virtual IP Addresses (VIPA), interface availability, sharing capabilities, VLAN support, Virtual MACs, OSA Direct SNMP, and other management related functions. The session will focus on the software use of OSA and will discuss hardware aspects only where such aspects are of importance to understanding how the hardware and software cooperate to deliver the desired functions.
