Adding capacity to that mainframe - or upgrading to a new model? How do you know
how much capacity you actually need to put online? This session will present
ideas and methods that were used over 2 decades at a Fortune 100 insurer to
manage and deliver mainframe capacity in a way that reduced software costs and
provided growth and stability to business units. This session will present
techniques that were developed to more effectively manage software costs
resulting from CPU upgrades as well as managing the delivery of capacity that
approached a "just-in-time" delivery method. This greatly increased our user
satisfaction. Processes were developed to more easily manage mainframe capacity
requirements, assess alternatives and incrementally add capacity to mainframe
systems. Management of capacity-constraint issues will also be reviewed.
Problems and challenges that led to this methodology will be discussed and
solutions presented. A live demo of some of these techniques and results will be
presented.
