Locking is one of the most difficult topics in the application development. Locking problems are hard to reproduce in the testing environment, but usually occur in the production environment, especially when many transactions are running in parallel. This can even result in poor application performance or deadlocking. In this presentation we will introduce the fundamental terminology and principles of locking and we will show some simple scenarios that could lead to deadlock situations and how to avoid them. The presentation is targeted to Db2 for z/OS, but we will also mention some significant differences between the Db2 for z/OS and LUW.-Chris Crone-Broadcom
