This presentation gives a conceptual view of some of the aspects of modern mainframe processors. It is hoped that these concepts will be interesting and useful even to those who do not write programs. Where applicable, recommendations are given on how code can be made to run more efficiently. However, in many cases, it is the compilers that can be depended on to implement the recommendations. Topics include: What is a CPU anyway?; Non-Uniform Memory Access(NUMA), a bit about millicode, and more.-Bob Rogers-Trident Services
