Come to this session for a "deep dive" technical introduction to the new PCI Express (PCIe) I/O infrastructure and new Parallel Sysplex coupling features announced on July 12, 2011 with enhancements announced on October 12, 2011 for both the zEnterprise 196 (z196) and the zEnterprise 114 (z114). Learn how the new infrastructure can be added to already installed zEnterprise servers and can coexist with the older InfiniBand I/O infrastructure on both previously installed and new build zEnterprise servers. Learn about how the PCIe infrastructure is designed to offer increased I/O bandwidth, greater I/O port density, increased flexibility for I/O feature configuration, and improved performance. Learn about the capabilities, advantages, and performance offered by the new PCIe I/O drawer and the new FICON Express8S, OSA-Express4S, and HCA3-O InfiniBand 12x and 1x Parallel Sysplex coupling features. This session is an updated version of the same session given at SHARE in Orlando. It assumes a general background in System z I/O structure, z/Architecture, and System z operating systems.
