In June 2017 unknown actors, probably state-supported, launched a cyberwar attack on Ukraine. The malware, dubbed NotPetya, quickly spread beyond Ukraine’s borders and became “the most devastating malware attack in history” (Wired Magazine) crippling the shipping giant Maersk, the port of Copenhagen, the drug manufacturer Merck, shipper TNT Express, and the Russian state oil company Rosneft, resulting in $10 billion in damages. So what does it have to do with mainframes? Possibly a lot, if you use Windows desktops to access mainframe applications (and who doesn’t?). Come to this session and learn the linkage between the NotPetya malware component Mimikatz and your mainframe.-Charles Mills-BMC Software
