This session will cover the experiences of a customer who is aggressively leveraging LPAR capping and other technologies to maximize the value obtained from their IBM MLC software expenditures.
A broad range of technical topics foundational to MLC software expense management will be covered, including 4-hour rolling average, individual and group LPAR capping, and RMF data critical to setting and managing MSU caps.
The strategy used for workload management to minimize SW expense per MSU consumed based on the "marginal cost" of IBM products will be presented. The session will also describe processes created to minimize the MSU cap values while ensuring highly responsive service, including determining the cap values going in to each new month, monitoring utilization versus caps, and making real-time adjustments to caps.
The crucial role of effective batch management and technology used to dynamically manage the batch workload will be discussed.
In addition, actions taken to communicate with the broader IT community and gain their partnership will also be considered. Todd J. Havekost USAA
