SHARE in Seattle 2015
In 1955, just two years after the release of IBM's first computer, a handful of the earliest IT professionals collaborated to form SHARE. Over the past five decades, SHARE has become synonymous with high-quality, user-driven education and resources to make enterprise computing specialists more effective professionals. As we celebrate 60 year's of SHARE and its close partnership with IBM, the MVSS project will take a look back at how SHARE influenced and participated in the development of what we know today as DFSMS (Data Facility System Managed Storage).
Since its release in 1988 as part of MVS, DFSMS has provided system-managed storage (SMS), implemented via policy-based storage management and automation, to direct data to storage devices and simplify common storage tasks. The feature speaker(s) for this session will provide a look back at the development of DFSMS and provide some interesting and entertaining stories about the origins of DFSMS and how it has developed over the years. Whether you are new to storage management or were around for the first release of DFSMS, everyone will find this presentation both informative and enjoyable.-Michael E.
