Effective monitoring, alerting, and notification are essential aspects of any systems management performance and availability strategy. Meaningful alert management enables fast and efficient problem isolation and root cause analysis. Our speaker will provide an overview of various alert and event notification alternatives starting with typical representative z/OS requirements, expand the scope of the discussion to other platforms, and consider the pros and cons of different approaches.
The presentation will look at different types of alerts, how alerts may be managed and correlated, and how alerts may be presented considering various user interface options, such as GUIs versus 3270 interface. The presentation will then map out how an effective alert management strategy may be expanded beyond z/OS to include the overall enterprise. Real world examples will be shown using IBM Tivoli technology, OMEGAMON, Tivoli Enterprise Portal, NetView, and OMNIbus. The discussion will cover the pros and cons of the various alert options, and proven best practices for how to optimize alert management and monitoring in your environment.
