This session will discuss performance coding practices based on experiences gained in z/OS development. Application and System developers generally have sharp skills when it comes to coding for functionality. However performance nuances are often overlooked. On the other hand, sometimes developers may go too far with performance sensitivity at the micro level, but not see the bigger picture performance problem. This presentation will go into some examples of how developers can keep performance in mind, without relying on detailed measurements and analysis, by teaching some simple concepts, i.e. path length, cycles per instruction, hidden costs of service calls, and efficient memory usage.-Joe Gentile-IBM
