Over the past decade, regulations like the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and the European General Data Protection Regulation have been born, requiring businesses to pay more attention to data security. Coupled with high-profile breaches like those at Equifax, Target, and OPM, pressure is on IT from all directions: the boardroom, the public, and regulators.
