Timing is essential to our economic security. It is needed to synchronize networks, for digital broadcast, to efficiently use spectrum, and for properly ordering a wide variety of transactions. It is also the underpinning of all wireless positioning and navigation systems. Today’s over-reliance on vulnerable satellite signals for timing is a disaster waiting to happen. The U.S. Federal government has designated time synchronization networks as critical infrastructure for the U.S. financial system. IBM has been an active participant in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's conformance working group focused on time synchronization resiliency and security. This session will discuss how you can plan for and implement resiliency and security for your time synchronization environment, and will also talk about some of the recent developments in standards focused on this topic. The speaker is IBM Z's Timing Architect and represents IBM in the DHS working group and in the time synch standards bodies.
