Come to this session for a technical introduction to the just announced IBM z13s; the newest member of the IBM z Systems family; and for an overview of new enhancements to the IBM z13. In Part 1; you will be introduced to z13s system design including model structure and performance; processor design; cache organization; memory offerings; cryptographic enhancements; operating system support; and implementation considerations. A review of enhancements to z13 and z13s z/Architecture compared to the previous generation including simultaneous multithreading (SMT) and the Vector Facility (SIMD instructions) will also be presented. Gain insight into how the PR/SM hypervisor; z/OS; z/VM and KVM for z have been enhanced to optimize z13 and z13s zIIP and IFL capacity. Build a foundation for planning z13s implementation and exploitation and prepare to attend more in depth sessions on those topics. This session is the first part of a two part sequence. Please consider attending: The New IBM z13 Part 2: I/O Design and Function; I/O Feature Exploitation; and Parallel Sysplex support. These sessions assume a reasonable familiarity with previous z Systems servers and operating systems.-Harv Emery-IBM Corporation
