It seems that for many installations, the XCF Signal Service is something to "set and forget". Quietly working in the background, it reliably delivers signals between members of XCF groups scattered throughout the sysplex. Until it doesn't. Yes, some installations experience signal delays, even outages. We in development sometimes cringe when see configurations that, to us, appear to increase the potential for problems. So let's talk about the XCF Signal Service. What does it do? How do your XCF Transport Class and MAXMSG specifications impact its behavior? What sorts of problems might arise and how might they be resolved? As we explore these topics, we'll have an opportunity to discuss some shortcomings of the signal service. After some lively discussion between speaker and audience, I hope you leave with a better understanding of how to properly configure the XCF Signal Service in your sysplex. I hope to have a crisp understanding of your issues and concerns that I can share with the development team. Hopefully we can see our way to a more beautiful future.-Mark A. Brooks-IBM Corporation
