VSAM continues to be a widely used access method in CICS systems today. There are several ways that VSAM files can be processed by CICS such as NSR, RLS and LSR. CICS has expanded its VSAM support to include threadsafe and the expansion of the number of pools from 8 to 255. This presentation will review some of the traditional tuning for LSR such as buffer tuning but will also discuss some areas to consider when defining files that will be used in LSR. Some of the areas covered include CI sizes for the data/index, recognizing key compression problems, buffer fragmentation, number of buffer pools and look-aside hit ratios.-Gene Hudders-C\Trek Corporation
