While working on their DevOps roadmap, TSYS, like many others in the industry, has faced a number of problems around risk mitigation and test data management. • Defining test coverage is still a manual, subjective activity
• Access to production data is being cut off to mitigate risk
• Testers spend 50% of their time looking for data without being sure that what they find will work when they use it • Test environments have limited and/or outdated data
• Test environments change constantly which invalidates data
• Extracts from production will never contain 100% of needed data
• Production data will never cover new functionality
• Masking production data is laborious and complex
• Soon, the use of Production data will not be allowed
This presentation will show how the TSYS company (a customer of Orson Test Data) has worked to overcome these problems • They are already using service virtualization to mitigate the dependencies on production data and external systems
• Using business rules and data intelligence, functional coverage can be refined into a coverage matrix which defines exactly what needs to be tested
• The same data intelligence can be used to • Select/generate the right input data and expected results for test cases
• Guarantee that the environments contain the right data
• Eventually directly generate test and environment data and cut the dependency on production data
• Automatically generate automated test cases
