In 2011 IBM delivered R6.2 of the DS8000 which introduced a new caching algorithm called List Prefetch Optimizer (LPO) which optimizes the performance of DB2 list prefetch I/O, an exclusive feature of z/OS. DB2 for z/OS uses list prefetch I/O when data or indexes are disorganized. LPO works well with both spinning disks and with SSD. The combination of LPO and SSD, along with DB2 for z/OS, is part of a long term strategy to enable users to reduce the need to keep data and indexes organized. The speaker will also discuss some changes in DB2 10, as well as future DB2 trends that will further reduce the need for Reorg.
