VisibleZ is a powerful learning tool for IBM z/Architecture assembler programs. It is a Java-based execution-time interpreter for IBM object code, with visual displays of memory, registers, and PSW as execution is stepped through the program. The execution of each supported instruction is written in Java, and new instructions can be added easily to its repertoire (often as student assignments). A basic level of support is provided for DCBs, OPEN, CLOSE, GET, and PUT. VisibleZ supports execution of complete programs, program snippets, and parameter passing to subprograms. Some examples will illustrate its power for understanding basic concepts of z/Architecture.
