We hear it all the time ... How can TCP/IP protocol move data faster than FICON? And yet, the reduction in backup windows and the reduction in MSU consumption at real customers demonstrates it is possible to maximize throughput over TCP/IP. Model9's approach to data movement is different because it doesn’t rely on tape protocols and it does not emulate tape. It doesn’t have to. Model9’s unique software generates multiple streams of data from a source and pushes data over IBM Open Systems Adapter (OSA) cards using TCP/IP in an efficient and secure manner to or from an object storage device, either on premise or in the cloud.
