This is the opening session for the zNextGen Project, open to all attendees. The project officers will take about 10 minutes to introduce the zNextGen community, describe our mission and welcome back returning members. This time will also be used to point out important zNextGen meeting points and activities throughout the week, as well as recommended technical sessions.
Keynote Abstract:
Today: the world economy. Tomorrow: the world! Why and how will we get from here to a million mainframes powering all the best business computing on the planet, when, and what can we do to prepare?
The best stats available for the number of IBM mainframes actively running the world economy suggest slightly over 10,000, a number that has been relatively stable for quite a long time.
Some day soon - maybe in the 2020's - IBM will manufacture their millionth System/360-descended mainframe. I am predicting that this is just the beginning, as the world rediscovers the power, reliability, availability, security, serviceability and stability of the only platform that really works, and accelerating returns begin to geometrically increase the number of IBM mainframes in use to do computing well.
Join me for this vision of the future and strategic discussion of how to be part of it.-Warren T. Harper-BMC Software; Reg Harbeck-Mainframe Analytics Ltd.
