As the IBM Z and z/OS memory configurations have increased, we need to rethink what we consider “large” and what performance metrics need to be monitored. As more applications begin to exploit memory in new ways, it becomes important to monitor more than just available frames. The author will review the latest updates related to system z memory and share experiences that demonstrate new performance indicators and system defaults that should be monitored to avoid performance issues.
The author has over 30 years in z/OS performance and has coauthored an IBM red paper on the benefits of configuring more memory in the z/OS software stack.-Dave Betten-IBM
