With the z13, IBM has introduced Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) for zIIP and IFL processors. This effectively lets one processor work on two things at once. SMT enablement is optional which raises the question of whether or not you should enable it. If you do enable SMT, is it delivering the expected value? Fortunately, SMT brings with it new measurements, to help you answer that question. Unfortunately, the meanings of the terminology and measurements are not always straight-forward and obvious.
Join Scott Chapman in this session as he explores SMT for zIIPs and you’ll be able to better understand the value and caveats of SMT and the measurements that allow you to monitor and understand the effectiveness of SMT in your environment.-Scott Chapman-Enterprise Performance Strategies Inc.
