WLM Velocity and Response Time goals are the most proper goal types for most workloads in the z/OS
environment. Deciding which one to use is typically very straightforward. Long running work should be
assigned velocity goals, and short running work should be assigned response time goals. However,
there are other deciding factors. For example, the frequency of transactions, the amount of CPU
consumed by the workload, the relative number of using and delay samples, and more.
During this back-to-basics presentation Peter Enrico will help you better understand velocity and
response time goals, considerations when choosing each, and some measurement and tuning tips as
well. This presentation will also touch on the topic of whether or not response time goals should be used
for CICS and IMS transactions, or if it's better to allow the regions to be managed towards velocity goals.
