In Db2 for z/OS, database reorganization has undergone significant changes over the past decade.� While the nuts and bolts involved in the actual reorganization process has remained largely the same, the objectives, reasons and methods of performing object level reorganization have been gradually changing, which influences why and how users need to perform reorganization in this fast-growing database world with 24/7 availability.
In this session, we will discuss the following aspects of database reorganization in the Db2 z/OS environment, with focuses on the Db2 for z/OS REORG utility: • Review historical objectives of performing database reorganization, and how the reasons and objectives of reorganization evolve over the years as Db2 for z/OS evolves
• Review the current pain points and common misconceptions of performing reorganization under the Db2 for z/OS REORG utility
