Are you interested in building effective enterprise application development teams to can react quickly to change? Do you want your experienced COBOL developers to effectively collaborate with and transfer skills to newly hired developers as well as have the tool at their fingertips that helps them with application understanding and maintenance? Do your team members have different expectations about what tools to use?
If that is the case then meet Zowe.org, a new exciting Open Source initiative in the context of the Open Mainframe Project. It offers modern interfaces to interact with z/OS and allows you to work with z/OS in a way that is similar to what you experience on cloud platforms today. It also preserves all of the old tools such as ISPF, which can now be used within a Web browser in combination with many new user experiences.
In this presentation we will show you how we created an entirely web-based, zero client install Integrated Development Environment offering on top of Zowe. This IDE integrates analysis tools from IBM Application Discovery and Delivery Intelligence (ADDI) to graphically explore your application structures and dependencies, perform impact analysis, correlate with software metrics and test code coverage results for various application maintenance, program understanding and modernization scenarios. It then allows you to switch seamlessly between analysis views and COBOL editors and productivity tools, as well as annotate your code with metrics and insights.
Join us for a walkthrough of these new capabilities as well as a summary of how we built the application on top of Zowe, showing you examples for how to extend it as well as lessons learnt.-Peter Haumer-IBM
