There are a ton of management tools available to help your mainframe communications perform at peak performance and remain highly available. The key is how these tools use a core set of technologies. This presentation details the availability; location and use of the basic tools required by the network administrator to diagnose problems in a TCP/IP network. This includes initial problem determination; possible causes; and actions to be taken.
The effects of some of the specialised traffic (e.g. ICMP; DNS) will also be explained in brief. The use of the utilities (such as 'ping'; 'traceroute'; 'netstat'; and traces) and packet capture utilities will be shown in some detail; both on and off (where appropriate) the z/OS platform.-Dean Butler-IBM Corporation
