Even in highly-replicated environments, traditional data-center wide DASD backup and recovery are of paramount importance in insuring the availability of valid user data. Migration/archiving of unused disk files is also important to maintain sufficient free DASD space. The speaker will provide an overview of two of the most widely used DASD management systems, IBM's DFSMShsm and Innovation Data Processing's FDRABR. Each system is closely linked to DFSMS and the z/OS storage management system. We will examine and contrast the most important features of each system, including how the backed-up and migrated data is tracked, how restores are performed, and how important defaults should be set.-Steve Pryor-DTS Software, Inc.
