Using SAN for your Linux servers that run on z/VM is a great idea. But unless you are a z/VM, Linux and Storage administrator all wrapped into one, there are a fair number of challenges you are faced with to make everything not only work seamlessly, but to be able to manage and report on details too. Items such as NPIV vs non-NPIV LUNs, provisioning and de-provisioning, moving servers from one LPAR to another, or even to another machine, Disaster Recovery, finding all affected servers if path or fabric failures occur, and many more!
This session will cover the pros and cons of using SAN and what Nationwide Insurance has done over the years to help deal with these challenges. Come and hear the perspective of a z/VM systems programmer to get ideas on how to manage your SAN at your installation! James Vincent ; Nationwide Insurance
