Upgrading or installing a new virtual tape system necessarily involves migrating existing tape volumes and data sets to the new hardware. Depending on the amount of data to be moved, this can be a fairly simple task done with utilities already inhouse or a large scale effort requiring specialized vendor products and serious planning. The speaker will discuss migration strategies, programs, products, and processes that can be used for migration, and the types of issues, such as proprietary data formats, metadata repositories, and tape management concerns, that arise during a tape migration.-Steve Pryor-DTS Software, Inc.
