Performance management is about avoiding crisis. Users and management is impressed when they are provided with the ability to detect problems before the end users are aware, having alert capability and the ability to do performance analysis for the period when there is a problem - not hours or days afterwards. Installations are often told - don't run the performance monitor unless there is a performance problem. This presentation shows how to collect oracle metrics at a very low cost and continously, how to provide alerts - and some of the metrics we think should have alerts, and any tuning tips we have learned in this process.-Barton Robinson-Velocity Software
