Customers are using Linux on z Systems to help reduce software and maintenance costs for their database infrastructures. CPU consumption and I/O latencies are critical components in determining the number of databases that can be consolidated in a virtualized Linux on z Systems environment. Many customers also use CPU consumption as a critical component in their charge back models for their cloud provisioned systems. This session provides CPU reducing and disk configuration tips for running Oracle databases with Linux on z Systems based on real customer experiences. This session will also show the CPU performance gains with IBM z13 and the newly certified Red Hat and SUSE distributions for Oracle workloads. Examples will be provided that illustrate the benefits achieved by implementing some of these suggestions in order to achieve cost saving consolidation ratios.-David Simpson-IBM Corporation
