It’s been 40 years since ACF2 was developed at the London Life Insurance Company and then installed at its first site, the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors. Even though data security is one of the largest issues today, we, in the mainframe community, have been formally discussing it and addressing it since 1972 when the SHARE Security Project was formed. At that time, Eldon Worley (who later became the architect of the revised RACF system) and the speaker, Barry Schrager (who later became the architect of ACF2) gave a presentation on their concepts for Data Security. Today, the mainframe is recognized as the most secure (OK "securable") platform and SHARE played a large role in achieving that.
In this session the speaker will cover the history and the SHARE forum that allowed mainframe security to take place and succeed as well as discussing today's security issues.-Barry Schrager-
