In the hands of a RACF Security Administrator, SETROPTS is an indispensable tool for making dynamic, system-wide changes to RACF options related to resource protection. In the current security climate, it’s important to become acquainted with these options, to be able to gauge their relative importance, and to avoid misconfigurations that may become open doors for hackers. For someone unfamiliar with RACF, getting to know the SETROPTS parameters can be a daunting task.
In this presentation, we examine the importance of each SETROPTS parameter, in overview. We present the results of our SETROPTS surveys, to show that “common practices may not always be in line with “best practices. In addition, we explain the relationship between RACF events and SMF logging and their significance in log analysis by such tools as SIEMs.-Richard Faulhaber-NewEra Software, Inc.; Andrew Robichaux-NewEra Software
