z/OS Communications Server's integrated Intrusion Detection Services (IDS) leverage Communications Server's position as a communications endpoint in order to detect attacks on z/OS that otherwise might go undetected by traditional network-based intrusion detection systems. Used in combination with network-based IDS, z/OS IDS can provide an extra layer of "self-protection" that could be a real difference maker. In this session the speaker will describe Communications Server's IDS and how it can be used to detect intrusion attempts against z/OS. Topics covered are IDS architecture, types of attacks detected, the defensive and notification actions that occur when an intrusion event is detected, and IDS policy configuration using the Network Configuration Assistant for z/OS Communications Server.
