In today’s IT world, critical events which can lead to outages of large systems require an immediate response and resolution of the system programmer responsible for the IT infrastructure. The worst things that can happen are profit losses – if a problem of the IT system is realized too late – and reputation damages – if a problem of the IT system is published in the social networks.
zOSMF zEvent is a new function which helps z/OS installations to direct their most critical events to the smartphones of their system programmers and administrators. In addition, the function allows the system programmers to get onto the system and to find additional information which helps them to analyze the problem instantaneously in order to make the right decision how to solve a potential problem.
In this presentation, we first introduce the target scenarios of zOSMF zEvent. After an overview of the major components, we present the two communication mechanisms between these components; i) the notification path from the system to the device and ii) the information retrieval from the system triggered on the device. In this context, we also highlight important security aspects that are involved in zOSMF zEvent. Finally, we give an overview of the usage and the general workflow.-Xiao Zhen (Joey) Zhu-IBM Corporation; Wilhelm Mild-IBM Corporation
